only in houston

as the new year is well underway (january 14, are you kidding me?!??) i'm starting to ponder this city we've lived in for the past year/year and a half...i thought i'd put together a list of things i've found especially humorous and specific to this city.  i've titled it rather creatively:

only in houston...

can you...

sit out by the pool to read a book on december 5th........
...........and also play soccer outside without a shirt...

live in ritzy high rise lofts on one block and walk past government subsidized housing on the next...

have the 9th safest suburb in the country and the 4th unsafest city...within 15 miles of each other...

see more texas flags than US flags...

...receive an urgent letter to drip faucets, cover plants and insulate pipes when the temperature drops below 40...

...be a minority if you're white...

...have so many disappointing sports teams...

...have over 400,000 illegal aliens...

...have the largest livestock show and rodeo in the whole world...

and...

as i experienced about a month ago, see a gun laying in the grass on the block next to ours, freak out, call husband, husband call police and meet them at the location, realize the gun is a fake gun, and stop freaking out.

we're going to miss this place.

okay...in reality...i think we are going to miss this place.  but not for the reasons i just went on and on about.  :)

and in other news, we're going skiing tomorrow!!!!  we're flying out of h-town and into d-town tonight to meet maria and the rest of everyone (air force crew) that we know here.  it's going to be quite the weekend, i hope.  i got some cute new ski gear (which makes thing way better, agreed?) and i'm rather looking forward to fresh powder, the 8-bedroom lodge we're staying in (specifically the outdoor hot tub), but mostly seeing maria and amanda and leanna!!!

here's hoping monday delivers us back to houston safely with all limbs intact.
Happy Friday!
